Hard Not to Like Makes a New Track Record in G1 Diana Stakes
Hard Not to Like was ultra-impressive in victory in the Grade I Diana Stakes at Saratoga Racecourse. The gray mare by Hard Spun was given the perfect trip by John Velasquez, and the two of them sat off the pace, yet in front of the field’s closers. Fractions were relatively quick for the mile and an eighth, travelling 23.5, 47.2, and 1:10.15. Entering the stretch Hard Not to Like was asked to make her winning move. She swung three wide and steadily picked off her opponents before putting her nose down on the wire first.
This victory earned Hard Not to Like and her connections their 2nd straight Grade I stake, and also made the mare a millionaire. Congratulations to Speedway Stable LLC on this impressive purchase. Since racing under their ownership, Hard Not to Like has earned $540,000, and it appears she is just beginning to hit her best stride.

Pure Sensation stylishly powered away from her foes when he won an allowance optional claiming event at Saratoga. Sent off as the favorite in a field of eleven, Pure Sensation still managed to make her odds look like an absolute gift. Joel Rosario got the leg up, and the duo set blistering fractions of 21.73 and 43.94 over the 5.5 furlongs on the turf. Once they gained the lead, they never looked back and went on to score by 3 and one half lengths. Congratulations to owner and breeder Patricia Generazio on the victory.

Marabea made her new world class owners look ultra-sharp when she survived a rough trip to score in an allowance race in her US debut. Originally campaigned in Italy, Marabea was acquired by Team Valor International and Lael Stables, and sent to us after placing in a Group III. She settled in under Joe Bravo after needing to steady coming out of the gate. Marabea then galloped comfortably near the back of the pack and under no urging from her rider. Following that, she entered the home stretch and proved to be loaded. She and her rider split rivals despite needing to steady once again, and went on to win impressively by two. Congratulations to the new connections on their instant dividends earned by Marabea.

Pine Needles finished a fast closing second in the Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth Park. The well bred filly teamed up with Joe Bravo and took on a field of six over the one mile and one sixteenth on the turf course. The duo made their move coming from off the pace but ultimately ran out of real estate and came up under one length short. She has now placed in three stakes races in her short career, and appears to have major potential in her future. Congratulations to owner/breeder Mr. Jon and Mrs. Sarah Kelly on the successes of their talented filly.

Stormy Regatta won the Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth Park under confident riding by jockey Joe Bravo. The two settled in towards the rear of the pack before making a five wide move into the stretch and gamely passing her rivals. The two stopped the clock in 1:41.68, and looked great in doing so. Stormy Regatta is a three year old filly by Midshipman, out of the A.P. Indy mare Storm Front. Congratulations to owner Cheyenne Stables LLC on their filly earning blacktype in this impressive performance.

Dowse’s Beach and Irad Ortiz Jr. rattled off an impressive win at Saratoga in a 5.5 furlong sprint. Ortiz Jr. patiently waited for an opportunity to take the lead arrived, and they both did so confidently under a hand ride. Dowse’s Beach came home in 1:01.62, and has now won two straight starts for owner and breeder Ms. Patricia Generazio. Congratulations on yet another win and on a quick and successful start to the Saratoga meet.
